Words from the Pastor

Day 1

In my reading from the Moravian Texts this week I once again read of the last plague on the Egyptians when the angel of death took their first born and “passed over” the Hebrews.  I wondered how scary it would have been to hear the wailing in the night of those who lost loved ones.  And though the promise was there to the Hebrews of being “passed over” and they were doing everything they were told to do (lamb’s blood on the doorposts and lintel) it still must have been a terrifying night.

It was a long night of waiting—waiting on the Lord.  Today as the Coronavirus spreads throughout the world bringing sickness and death to people and sickening the stock market and economy, we too wait for it to “pass over us” (as we wash our hands, stay home and practice social distance.)  And pass over it will.  But in the meantime, there is a lot of worry out there and even in our own hearts and minds.  So, in faith and trust in God that whatever happens we are his.  Wait on the Lord.  Hear the promise for those who do from Isaiah 40:29-31:

29 He gives power to the faint,
    and strengthens the powerless.
30 Even youths will faint and be weary,
    and the young will fall exhausted;
31 but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.

In Christ’s love and service, Pastor Fred

Catalinas Community Chorus Update

Dear Vista Friends:
The recent coronavirus outbreak has made it prudent for Catalinas Community Chorus to proactively postpone the spring concert scheduled for March 22 at Vista until a future date to be determined.  While we are collectively sad at the decision, we must do what is right for the health and well-being of the chorus and the community we serve.

People who have purchased tickets may exchange them for tickets to a future concert or elect to make an unrecognized donation to the choir’s charitable causes (currently Canyon Del Oro music program and Tucson Girls Chorus). If you have further questions or need additional information, please contact Bill Bellah.  CCC appreciates and thanks all of their supporters at Vista while we anticipate future programs together.

SHEPHERDING OUR FLOCK

VISTA UMC’S SHEPHERDS

“Keep watch over yourselves and all of the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. BE SHEPHERDS of the church of God.” Acts 20:28

Vista Church is reviving “Shepherding” from a few years ago to fill the need for visits to visitors, shut-in members, hospitalized or home bound due to illnesses, and the administration of the Rite of Communion, that has been consecrated by the Pastor, and telephone calls to church family.

As members of Vista church family, we need volunteers ready to consistently serve to meet these needs.

We know there are currently family church members who fulfill some of these needs; however, some church family members are not being adequately served.

We need to remember that our shut-ins have been active Vista members and have contributed greatly in the past for the success of the church. They now need our help to brighten their days and to help them feel that they are still a vital member of our church family.

Our Pastoral staff, Pastor Fred and Pastoral Assistant, Valerie simply do not have enough hours in their days to reach out to everyone. Our church family needs to support them while ministering to those in need.

WILL YOU TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE? Please contact Pastor or Valerie (520) 825-1985 or Karen Rice at (520) 468-2528.
